Different is a venue that was founded fourteen years ago as a pastry bar by Sofia Diversi, whose surname also inspired the name of the place. It is located in Rio Marina, on the pier, overlooking the Torre degli Appiani, in a scenic position facing the sea and one of the town’s historic landmarks. From the very beginning, the idea was to create a meeting space capable of telling the story of the area and its heritage.
The choice of location is closely linked to Rio’s mining tradition. Many local families worked in the mines, and the owner herself grew up listening to her grandparents’ stories connected to this world. For this reason, the venue has preserved many of its original elements, with the aim of maintaining the character of the place and paying tribute to the town’s mining history.
Over the years, the business has evolved: from a pastry bar, it has gradually transformed into a broader and more informal dining space. Different is not a restaurant in the traditional sense, but offers contemporary, casual cuisine designed to suit different moments of the day and provide a convivial environment for eating and drinking.
The food offering is varied and includes both light dishes and more creative options, with particular attention to artisanal preparation and the freshness of ingredients. The menu features poke bowls, Chinese ravioli, avocado toast, sandwiches—including an octopus sandwich—and pasta dishes. The kitchen is open from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm and from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm, while the bar remains open until late at night. Even when the kitchen is closed, the venue offers snacks and drinks, including both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
An important aspect of Different’s identity is its music programming. Since its opening, the venue has organized live music nights and public events that engage both residents and visitors, contributing to the lively atmosphere of the town. These initiatives mainly take place from Easter to November and are communicated through the venue’s social media channels.
The venue’s motto, “Different taste, drink, explore more,” reflects the idea of a space that combines gastronomy, conviviality, and the discovery of the local area.
