Festa di San Rocco (Feast of Saint Rocco)

The Festa di San Rocco (Feast of Saint Rocco) is one of the most cherished and widely attended patronal and folk celebrations of the Rio Marina community. Celebrated every year in mid-August, the festival combines the solemnity of religious observances with the fun of a town square celebration, drawing hundreds of residents and tourists every summer.

History and Celebrations
August 16th is entirely dedicated to the veneration of Saint Rocco (San Rocco), protector of the seaside village. The religious heart of the event begins with Holy Mass celebrated in the parish church dedicated to the Saint, followed in the late afternoon by the traditional procession. The statue of Saint Rocco is carried in procession through the streets of the historic center and along the harbor, accompanied by the local marching band, the townspeople, and local authorities, leading up to the evocative moment of the blessing of the sea and the boats.

The Festival in the Village
Beyond the liturgical aspect, the Festa di San Rocco (Feast of Saint Rocco) enlivens the seafront and town squares throughout the entire day and evening. Featuring food stalls, artisan markets, and live musical entertainment, the village dresses up in celebration, creating a joyful and convivial atmosphere.

Crowning the final evening is the highly anticipated and spectacular fireworks display over the sea: fireworks launched from the harbor area illuminate the bay and the historic Appiani Tower (Torre degli Appiani), offering an unforgettable view to everyone present.
