“Franco Franchini” park house

Located in I Canali, just a few steps from the historic center of Rio nell’Elba, the Casa del Parco is housed inside the former public washhouse (about 65 m²). It serves as a visitor and information center of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, with a focus on the mining heritage of the island’s eastern side.

Inside, the space is divided into two main areas:

Visitor welcome area with brochures and informational material about the Park.

Multimedia exhibition area featuring a circular display with video viewers and interactive stations dedicated to the nearby Valley of the Mills.

A permanent feature, the Mineral Display Table, allows visitors to explore the main minerals found on Elba, a rich testimony to generations of mining activity.

Outside the building lie the new washhouses (1907), still crossed by spring water that flows through a long basin before reaching the stream that forms the Valley of the Mills.

Since 2009, the center has been dedicated to Franco Franchini, commemorating his valuable civic commitment and his support in the early development of the Park.
